Network Transformation
Thursday, June 18, 2009, the Network Transformation Team will be going around the building in the rooms listed below with an x-ray device that laser inscribes the floor locations for the boring for paths to pass our new network and phone cables through. This x-ray process should be done by the end of Thursday. On Friday we will be boring the holes marked up on Thursday. This process will make some noise and there could be dust caused by the vibration of the equipment but it will only be in and around these rooms:

The School's networking needs have outgrown our current network. A leading dental institution requires a reliable wired and wireless network that supports a plethora of educational, research, patient care and administrative functions.
We want our network to :
- be highly available, reliable and scalable
- have a sustainable business model
- provide state of the art connection speed for every computer/device
- meet emerging yet currently unidentified needs
- meet HIPAA, FERPA, U-M and national security and compliance regulations.
- A network that will be 10 times faster than the one we have now.
- A faster, more secure wireless network.
- Digital calendars and card access for our building, classrooms and conference rooms.
- March 2009 - May 2009: we'll start with the Research Tower, from the ground floor up to the 7th floor
- May 2009 - September 2009: Main building (start from the basement up to the third floor) and Kellogg Building (update some connections)
- September 2009 - December 2009: Kellogg Building (finish updating the connections in the entire building)
- January 2010 - August 2010: Dentistry Building - installing wireless access points, card readers and display devices to assist with access to classrooms and conference rooms
